We've been chasing up 'Dexter's Mates' for Convoy.
There's only 18 days before we stand on the side of the road and cheer on the motorbikes and the trucks. It's a pretty emotional time for us.
Dexter was mid chemotherapy rounds last convoy, and spent last convoy night in hospital.
We remember things like that.
This year, we have to do a good job of supporting convoy, and the People's Truck. We have asked a lot of people to stand with us and support Camp Quality, so we have to make them proud of our efforts.
We're getting excited.
We've started planning where we will stand for the convoy, where we will park and how we will organise things. We'll have a few more people with us this year, too, so...
Camp Dexter will be a little bigger.
Also, we know there are some people we will meet for the first time. They are people who have found Dexter through one form of social media or another, and they have fallen in love with him and appreciate the hardships he has endured.
While we seem cheeky and confident on social media, that's us, hiding behind Dexter. In real life, we're a little quieter... We hope we don't let anyone down, but... we're sure we won't! Still... When people finally meet Dexter for the first time, there are often tears.
A while ago, a man we respect and enjoy tweeting with, set a seemingly unrealistic goal...
He thought we could get 200 Dexter's Mates for the People's Truck. We hit 100 mates and then, we hit 150 Mates. We hit $2000... $3000.... $4000. Each milestone made us smile. But, the closer we got to that 200 number, the more we wanted it. Time was running out though, and we just didn't seem to be able to reach it.
Well, last night... we had a last minute push for the Truck and the Mates idea and... we have to wait for the pledged money to come in to the account and the names to be counted... but, we are so very, very close to 200 Dexter's Mates!
Having 200 people put their name on the Truck with Dexter's, shows us that they are willing to walk a while with Dexter...to share his journey and offer him some love and support.
And, if anyone deserves that, it's Dexter! We are so grateful. So proud. So overwhelmed.
We have no idea how the names will look on the People's Truck.
The people of McMahon's Transport pass the details over to the peoples at Aspiration Graphics. They design the sign-writing for the truck. We won't see it until convoy. We don't even want to see it until then... we know we will be blown away by the incredible number of names riding that truck, because of, and for, Dexter.
We can't wait!
I wanted to stop traffic on the roundabout and wave and cheer...
The McMahons pay the cost of the sign-writing. Aspiration Graphics charge them the very least they can, and McMahons cover the rest. A lot of time and energy is given by the people from McMahons Transport and Aspiration Graphics, to make sure the People's Truck is ready for Convoy.
Thank you.
