Charlotte called me this morning. I liked hearing her voice. It made me smile. Mum and dad have eaten breakfast, which is a bit mean, because I am fasting for my surgery! We'll head up to the ward soon. There are already lots of Boredom Busters on my facebook page. Thanks for playing! And, thank you, every single person, who has posted a 'Thinking of you' comment. xxx Read about my operation here and here
Read about Charlotte and Carol's first day of adventures Return to Blog Return to Home page We are staying at Ronny Macs tonight. I like it because I get to sleep in the big bed with Dad! Its quiet without Charlotte here, but I'm getting lots of extra cuddles, so I like it. I even had cuddles with my friends, Nicole and Isla, and they told me some funny jokes! I won't be able to sit on mum like this soon, so we are having lots of us time! We'll keep this page updated as often as we can tomorrow and the coming days. The joke contest starts tomorrow morning! What we're worried about, about this surgery & my recovery About the surgery What have Carol and Charlotte been up to? Return to Home page Return to Blog Tomorrow is my surgery, so we are in Sydney tonight. We left my noisy, busy sister with Aunty Carol. They don't know it, but we hid a few cameras around the place, so we could keep an eye on them! Here's what they got up to today:
** Charlotte called out to Dexter several times today. She went to the photo wall and had a chat with him in the afternoon. Come home soon, Dexter! xxx
Tomorrow, I'm going to Sydney. It's time for my surgery. I'll be sleeping at Ronny Mac's. (Ronald McDonald House) (If you ate a Big Mac on McHappy Day, or you have helped out the Ronald McDonald House Charity, thank you!) We booked in to Ronny Mac's a few weeks ago. Being able to stay at Ronny Mac's is wonderful. We don't have to worry about parking. We don't have to drive 'home' each night... we just walk. We can cook some pasta for dinner and still go back to the hospital for a few hours before bed. Tomorrow night, Mum, Dad and I will sleep at Ronny Mac's. I hardly ever get to sleep in the House! My sister and my Aunty Carol are looking after each other at home, and I'm a little bit worried about the mischief they will get in to! After the first night, once I'm in the hospital, either Mum or Dad will sleep in the hospital chair by my bed and the other one will sleep in the House. (Unless I get sent to the ICU and sleep there overnight... when I'm in the ICU, no one is allowed to stay overnight with me.) Just because we know it's for the best, doesn't make it easier. I've had a much worse, much scarier operation before. The surgery to remove my cancerous tumour took five and a half hours... this one should be much better. Still, I know that when Mum kisses me and tells me she loves me and then lets Dad carry me in to the room to be prepped for surgery, she will cry. Then Dad will kiss me too, and he will have to leave me with the surgery team. And then, they'll sit and worry about me. And watch the clock. Hopefully, I'll come out of surgery, breathing on my own. Hopefully, I will not be given the pain medication I am allergic to. (I stop breathing with it!) And, hopefully, we will be in hospital for less than a week. Hopefully, it'll be 'text book' surgery and recovery. To read more about the surgery, what it is and about my recovery time, read this post. Once the scary bit is over, the hospital gets very, very boring for Mum and Dad. They get tired because they aren't sleeping well and they drink bad coffee.
So, this hospital visit, we are having a competition. If you can make Mum and Dad laugh, you might win a prize. (It's a good prize, too! It's a photo of me and a little letter from me in the mail!) You can send them a joke or a funny puzzle, via facebook, twitter or as a comment on this blog post. You can post a funny picture or send them a fun challenge they can do beside my bed in the hospital. (Don't send them in the mail, because they won't be home to get them!) If you're on facebook, that's where most of the fun will be. If my twitter friends post jokes, we will share them on facebook. The daily winner will be the person who makes Mum and Dad laugh the most. We'll let you know each day who the winner was. We'll also keep you updated on my progress while I'm in hospital. We hope you will play along. **We don't want prayers. You can pray for me, but do it quietly. "Laughter is the best medicine". Thanks and sloppy kisses xxx Postcards for Dexter PO Box 3151 Minnamurra NSW 2533 What an adventure I had today! My friend, Paolo - The Brooding Italian, joined me at the river today. He has a stand up paddle board and he wanted me to have another ride on it. We had a go on the board together. I loved it! Paolo made sure I was carefully balanced, and Mum was there to catch me if I rolled off the board. But, I trust my Uncle Paolo (that's what I call him now) and wanted him to go faster and faster. We had a go with me sitting up, and I stayed nice and strong and we went really fast! Mum couldn't keep up! When Paolo first asked us if I could ride on his board, we wondered whether it would work... but it did! We love how Paolo can see past my cerebral palsy and how he makes things happen! Paolo wanted some photos of us on his board, so we asked Phil Winterton to come and take some photos of us. Phil was awesome! He was in the water and got very, very wet, so he could get good photos of me. Thanks, Phil! (When Phil gets the photos to us, we'll share them here for you to see.) Here are our phone photos: See me sitting up against Paolo? I had a wetsuit on, too! Here we are - Mum, Paolo and Phil, having fun

Read about my braille books Return to Home page Return to Blog This morning, I was a little champion with Zoe, my physiotherapist! She worked me really hard today, but then we had a beautiful cuddle and snuggle before she had to leave. I love Zoe. I didn't go to the river today. Its been too cold to get in the water this week. With my cerebral palsy, my muscles hurt when its cold. So today, I enjoyed some rolling down the hill, instead! It's fun! I won't be able to do that for 6 weeks! Mum's a bit scared I might forget how to roll over, while I'm in my casts. I reckon I will be able to remember... Charlotte got in the way while I was rolling down the hill, so Aunty Carol helped me roll over the top of her! We're not sure what she's eating....
It could be shells, leaves, sticks, nuts, old seeds, cigarette butts, grass or maybe, a cracker! She liked rolling down the hill, too! Ever since I was little, I've been getting these bags in the mail. The bags come from Vision Australia. They have books in them... and the books have braille text stuck to each page. Mum reads me the books, and she helps me to feel the bumpy braille bits with my fingers. It's a bit tricky for me to feel the braille sometimes, because of my cerebral palsy. (It can cause my fingers to tighten up.)
After we finish reading the books, we pack everything back in to the orange bag and send it back to Vision Australia. Read our 'Learning to See' post
Read about my cortico vision impairment Return to Home page Return to Blog How nice is my friend Kiri!
She helped us out at Melissa's doing it for Dexter fundraiser. She saw Mum there and she decided she wanted to give Mum a little surprise. She brought this around for mum today, so she can pamper herself! It's a fun pack of Mary Kay products! It's a pack of creams and cleansers and some hand creams, too! That is such a lovely thing to do, and it made Mum smile! She does look much older, since I came along! Thanks Kiri! Xx We live near such a beautiful river. It's very tidal. When it's high tide, we swim in one place, and when it's low tide, we go to a place slightly closer to the sea. It's beautiful. And, I love the water! A freezing cold current moved through the other day. My big cousin said the water was 'frozen ice' cold. It was! But still, once I had my feet wet, I was ready to swim. I'm kicking so well and using my arms, too. It's such great exercise, too. Mum loves it, because my sister and I fall asleep for two hours! We never usually do that in the day time! We've had lots of time just hanging out and playing.
