We did Halloween for the first time this year.
The street was lots of fun! I was tired by the end. My sister loved sharing the lollies with everyone who walked past! On Saturday night. Mum stepped up on stage. She looked out in to a dark oval, filled with people. And she talked about me. She shared some of her worst days. She shared some of her hardest memories. She was scared; scared she would cry and wouldn't be able to give the speech. She did so well. She spoke clearly and confidently. She spoke beautifully, and I am so proud of her. She had my Hamish with her, in case she needed it. He was sitting on her empty seat. He helped her stay strong. Here's Mum's speech for the 2015 Kiama Relay for Life Hope Ceremony speech. Mum. you are braver and stronger than you will ever believe. xx Part One - (about 12 minutes) Part Two - (about one and a half minutes) Platelets 101

Our final tally is yet to be completed, but it's looking at being over $2000! We had someone on the track for the whole Relay, which is something that is important to us. The long, cold hours are actually beautiful to walk, and are a great time for reflection. Combined, my Love Dexter team did over 1050 laps. (Thanks Amy for finishing it off for us! She was walking while Mum and Dad packed up)! Some team members have limps and blisters, to prove how much they walked. Everyone wore the Love Dexter colours with pride. Thanks, everyone. Thank you to the whole team and especially for those who braved the lonely, dark hours and those who came back in the very early hours! Also thanks to those who came and listened to my Mum's speech... She did really well! I am so very proud of her. Dad recorded it and will share it later, for those who want to hear it. At the 1am Undie Run, Dad rocked his pink g-string! I'm proud of him, too. Thanks for making this a fun Relay. You can still sponsor us here. Our Relay for Life is this weekend! Aunty Carol said Lenice would give the Hope Ceremony speech... without asking her first. Mum's pretty gutsy, though, and is going to give it. They're writing the speech tonight. It'll be about ten minutes and will cover my diagnosis with hepatoblastoma, my surgeries and chemotherapy treatments. It will also cover Mum's pregnancy with my noisy sister. Mum realised she was pregnant on the day my mass was detected. The speech will also share Mum and Dad's journey as my cancer carer, and how that continues to this day. Cancer comes quickly to their minds. And so, I'm sharing our fundraising link. All money goes to the NSW Cancer Council. You just never know when cancer research will be your most important concern. Donations are tax deductible. Team Love Dexter will be in a rainbow of colours, because for me, we've always looked for the silver lining. Come do a lap, if you'd like. Sponsor us here. Well, this is my school photo. We have trimmed my friends out for privacy reasons, but is there anything you notice about me??? Can you see how well I am sitting? Can you see my high/low chair? No! They let me sit on a chair. They were patient and made sure I was sitting well. They had the kids next to me holding my hands, and the girl behind me was holding my back, in case I threw myself backwards. And, they made sure I wasn't wearing a bib! I love my preschool! See my shirt? It's from my beautiful friend, Beth. It was designed by another person with cerebral palsy. Do you like it? (danielink.com) Yesterday, my sisters and I had a fun photo shoot.
It's not easy; getting photographs of us. My cerebral palsy means I can't easily sit up, play, walk around, look at the camera or even smile. And, those sisters never sit still! We went with Caroline Harris. She was very patient and fun. She took some great photos. Here are two she has shared. Thank you! (Find Caroline Harris Photography on facebook and find her website here.) Have you checked the blog out, only to find that we haven't been updating it very often? There's a lot happening, right now, and we are super busy. We're sharing all the adventures, just not here. My house is being renovated! The stairs are going to be taken away. The tiny room I was always in, is going to become a huge, open-plan style living room. I'll have so much more room! Mum will be able to cook, and keep an eye on me. My sisters will have easy access to the outside, and I will be able to use my walker on the back deck! The tiny walkway is going and my bedroom door will change, so I have easier access to the bathroom. The bathroom will change, too, so I can fit my shower chair in it. There is so much happening! We are sharing these stories on my Doing it for Dexter house blog. You can find it here. When the house renovations are done, we'll be back to sharing my stories here. Return to Home page Find me on: facebook twitter instagram pinterest youtube Mum decided she would do something for herself today. She doesn't get the chance very often, to spend time just on her own. So today, she dropped my sisters at Grandma and Grandads and I went to preschool.
But, I'm still cranky at her and ended up hitching a ride in an ambulance to the hospital! My doctor didn't like my breathing and I was having fevers. The ambulance men were nice and waited for mum to get to the doctors, so she could ride along too! I had lots of fevers, but they don't know what was wrong with me and sent me home! Mum went mad at me, because I scared my teachers, especially Caitlin... I'm sorry! But I did like to see my nurse Julie and was happy that the ambulance men looked after mum and gave her a sandwich! I'm home now, in bed. Mum just gave me medicine and we are all hoping I will have a great sleep and wake up feeling much better in the morning. Because, sometimes... you just have to play the guitar. Can you see that cheeky smile?
I worked out that the strings tickled my lip when they vibrated! Look what I did today! I got to walk in my new lounge room! When the furniture is in... It won't be so open, but... it's way better than I had before! My family started the deck, today. See more on the Doing it for Dexter blog. We are renovating Dexter's house!
