Here's a video flashback of some of my adventures from 2016:
Just for fun! Here's a video flashback of some of my adventures from 2016: 2016 was another big year for me and my family. There were many things were were lucky enough to experience. I made some good progress with my strength and determintion. I learned some new skills. We managed to (mostly) stay away from hospitals, with just two visits for me. I did have my first febrile convulsion (seizure), which scared us. It happened in the Emergency Department, when I was having high temperatures. I got the screws taken out of my leg, from my femoral osteotomy surgery. I got a wheelchair! I went on a flying fox! I moved in to my newly renovated home, with no steps and open plan living. Its so much better than before! We finished the backyard, just in time for Christmas Day. I turned five! And, I graduated preschool and had transition days at my new primary school. Here are the top ten photos (from facebook) for my 2016: The #1 most liked facebook photo... The day I sat with the amazing local Santa. The #2 most liked facebook photo was from the day I walked in to preschool in my Upsee. #3 - I got to go shopping with Mum in one of these trollies. It was a bit low for my head, but I loved helping Mum and holding the food! Thanks Kiama Woolworths for being inclusive! #4 - You celebrated with me when my oncologists told me that I was still cancer clear (January 10 2016). #5 Was a great day! This was the first time I used my wheelchair. We were scared to get a wheelchair, at first, but we got used to the idea. Now, we love the wheelchair! #6 saw me sitting in a chair, just like other kids! Thanks to the Starlight foundation, we watched the Dora show in Sydney! #7 - You supported me when I was in hospital for a few nights with pneumococcis. #8 saw us celerating 1,200 days of being cancer clear! #9 had everyone cheering for my birthday celebrations! I turned five! It was quite a journey getting here, so we made a pretty big deal about it! #10 was my Flying Fox day! ***Some of the photos we posted were in albums, so the individual photo might not have gotten as many likes. My instagram Top Nine is a little different. @lovedexter3 Thanks for another year of incredible support and friendship. Thanks for listening as we write about our worries and our hopes. Thanks for being patient with us, as we stumble our way through the doubts and questions we constantly have. Thanks for cheering each of my successes and for showing me love and care. We really appreciate it. We hope everyone has a happy, safe and healthy 2017. We hope the year is filled with happy days and the love of family and friends. 2017 will be a year of big change, for me... I'm starting Kindergarten. Flying Fox Fun

Return to Home page Find me on: facebook twitter instagram pinterest youtube The deck has become our favourite part of the house, especially in summer. It's even better now, because the backyard has just been 'finished'. We've kept the backyard 'low maintenance' and we're loving how it looks. We've been back in the house for a year now, and we've been working on a few things. The painting is all done. We've cleared out the northern side section of the house and laid pebbles down the strip between the house and the fence. The Noisy Sisters helped. That part of the house is finished. And now, just in time for Christmas, the backyard got finished, too! We laid the last of the pavers and spread the last of the pebbles, just in time for Christmas Day with family. We're still spreading the sand in to the cracks between the pavers, but that's easy. The garden is growing, the sunflowers are tall and the backyard is done! This is a huge thing to tick off the list. We're really happy! Now, we just need to work on the southern side. Oh, and we need to get some new topsoil for the front yard. The grass was doing really well... and then, it stopped raining! The grass there needs to be re-done. We're getting there! Here are some comparison photos for the back yard, starting right back at the beginning: We love it! There are pavers for scooters and pram races, blackboards for drawing on and gardens for vegetables. It will be easy to look after and it's very practical. *The sand is being packed in to the cracks. Happy New Year, everyone. Flying Fox Fun

Because I'm non-verbal, you can't hear how excited I was. I had a couple of turns, and this was my first one. The cream got me! The video missed the little chuckle I did at the end. What a weird game! I loved having the cream land on my face and stuck my tongue out to eat some before Mum wiped it all away. Flying Fox Fun

Not only has there been cool presents, but there has also been yummy food! I've had chocolate for snacks, custard for dessert, icy-poles in the afternoon and lollipops from the advent calendar (plus lots of healthy food! Don't worry, Mum makes us eat our fruit)! Mum has always been a bit scared to give me lollipops (she had a bit of a scare when she was only little...), but, I've been doing so well with my drinking and eating, that she let me try one for the very first time! I like lollipops! Dexter’s Feeding Efforts Jan15

Return to Home page Find me on: facebook twitter instagram pinterest youtube How good is this Christmas business!? I stayed up really, really late on Christmas Eve. I just couldn't fall asleep. The Noisy Sisters were up bright and early on Christmas morning, but I wanted to lie in bed... just a little longer... But! There were presents! I needed help to open my presents, but I liked getting my fingers under the wrapping paper and trying to tear bits off. Look what Mum and Dad got for us! Our old swing set got damaged in a storm a couple of years back. The tampoline did, too. We've taken the netting off, to try to keep the trampoline safe. But, on Christmas morning, we found this in the yard! This one is much better than the old one, because it has a special nest swing for me! It's so much fun! (Until The Noisy One pushed me a bit too hard this morning and I vomited!) Flying Fox Fun

We hope you had a great day, filled with lots of colour, laughter, good food and new memories made. Sloppy kisses! One year and one week ago, we moved back into our house after the big renovations.
Mum and Dad (and the family) have been working hard at finishing it off. Today, I was able to get to my backyard for the first time! We've got the pavers down and have packed in the pebbles. We've put in the garden shed and grown some veges and sunflowers. Today, we finished the last section of pavers and filled sand in the gaps. The back of our house is now finished! The girls have a chalkbord that we painted and hung up, as well as a board for painting. That's a bit fun! *By the time we took this, it was a bit dark! Mum had a rule - we would only get a Santa photo taken for our first Christmas; it's just too hard! But, this year we met a lovely Santa. He first saw us a couple of weeks ago. It was in the afternoon and we were covered in dirt! But, he came straight over to us and started talking directly to me! He held my hand and spoke so only I could hear him. Then, he spoke to my sisters, gave us all a stamp and told Mum that if we wanted a photo, to come back anytime and he would happily hold me so I wasn't in my wheelchair. Well, Mum finally got a chance to get back there today. My sister's were a bit scared, but I liked meeting Santa! I tried to steal Santa's beard (he told me it's pretend - it's too hot here for a beard!) and so he held my hand. The ladies taking the photo were really good and let Mum choose the best shot. We actually got an ok photo! Not an easy task with us three! Thanks Santa! Flying Fox Fun

Return to Home page Find me on: facebook twitter instagram pinterest youtube Wow! We have had such a fun day today! Mum and Dad got us ready this morning and said we were going for a drive, but wouldn't tell us what we were doing. We drove to Sydney and my sisters started noticing lots of people dressed like them... We were going to a Wiggles concert! Starlight had been given some seats in the Toyota Fleet corporate suite and invited us to go! We joined some other families (including my friend Dane!). We got to eat some yummy food and then sit nice and high. My littlest sister was so excited! Starlight then gave us some money to buy something. My sisters got Dorothy and I got Wags the Dog. Thank you so much Toyota Fleet team and Starlight Children's Foundation Australia! My Starlight fun: My First Plane Trip! I FED A DOLPHIN!!
