Dexter is in his leg brace, now. His legs are at a 90 degree angle.
So, for now, cuddles are just that little bit harder to have.
So, before Dexter went in to surgery, Lenice and Andrew held Dexter, as long as they could and as hard as they could.
The surgeon said it went well. He also said Dexter's hip was out by 60%, and that it was almost dislocated. That was frightening. And still, Dexter never complained!
It took about an hour to wake Dexter up, after the surgery.
Pure, unconditional and endless love.
We didn't realise just how desperately Dexter needed it.
But, regardless of everything... there is an incredible amount of love wrapped around this determined, cheeky little boy.
We worry about him. The worry never goes away. But, the love is stronger.
Handing over your son, for major surgery is one of them.
It's frightening and extremely stressful. And, Lenice and Andrew have done it a couple of times. It doesn't get any easier.
and holding on... there are no words for the way that feels.
Andrew will sleep on the ward with him overnight, and Lenice and Kaisa will be with Dexter during the days.
At the moment, Dexter is on the ward and mostly sleeping. He is on some pretty strong pain relief, so hopefully, he will sleep for most of the night. He is having some pain episodes, which is causing him to do some breath holding, but the medical staff are monitoring him very closely.
Dexter's sisters have to go on Dexter's hospital journeys, too. Both girls have been in the hospital with Dexter as tiny babies. Charlotte is mostly kept away from the hospitals, now, though seeing Dexter is important for her. She worries about him... and, to make things easier... she eats her meals in Dexter's chair.
