We, should have walked out happy with his progress.
Instead, we walked out in a daze, holding back tears, with referral forms for blood tests and ultrasounds. There was a 'mass, which needed to be treated'.
Despite our hopes, we secretly knew our lives were about to change....
While this day, in 2012, was an awful day and the beginning of a terrible cancer journey, we still have such praise and gratitude to Dexter's pediatrician, who... there can be no doubt, saved Dexter's life.
We didn't know it at the time, but Dexter was displaying all the symptoms for liver cancer - a rash, tiredness and a firm tummy. We had dismissed those as teething, cerebral palsy & pre-maturity and slight over-eating.
