Dexter's physiotherapy started when he was a couple of months old, and still in the NICU. He has weekly physiotherapy sessions and daily physiotherapy at home.
CP Challenge - Run up the steepest hill you can find. Run up and down several flights of stairs.
When people with cerebral palsy have physiotherapy sessions, they tend to push their bodies beyond what most of us can tolerate.
They show such determination and strength.
There have been times when Dexter has done home physiotherapy sessions and pushed himself until he cried. There have been times when he has shaken his head, to tell us he wasn't ready to stop. There have been times we have seen the pain on his face, but he has wanted to continue. And, there have been times when we were not as strong as Dexter, and we have made him stop.
All he wants to do, is run and play, just like his sisters.
But, he can't.
Because of his cerebral palsy.
And, it breaks our hearts.
So, run up that hill, and think of the strength and determination people with cerebral palsy show, each time they work through their physiotherapy sessions. Think of the extra effort they put into every single thing they do, each day.
*Dexter's physiotherapist has been working with him for about five years. She's family, now. Dexter loves her. He trusts her and knows she believes in him, so he usually works his little guts, for her. (Sometimes, he just wants cuddles with her.)
