Dexter has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and is carried around the house and into and out of the car. He weighs about 16 kilograms.
Fill a pillowcase with 16 kilograms of potatoes. (Maybe tie the loose end.)
Lift the pillowcase off the floor and carry it through the house.
Place it in to the bathtub.
Put it in a car seat in a van.
Hold it, while standing, for ten minutes as you chat to your neighbour.
Dexter is getting better at holding on, but treat your ‘potato bag’ as a new born, who cannot hold on and who is erratic with their head control.
Parents of people with cerebral palsy often carry their child into adulthood.
This is why Dexter’s mother has remedial massages.
