It's been almost six weeks.
He’s not doing great. He’s ok, but he has a long, hard road ahead.
The heart surgery went well (except for them needing to replace the valve and not just repair it, as we had thought), but the recovery has been slow.
He was under heavy sedation for five days and needed a respirator for six days.
He’s out of the ICU now, but has a lot of confusion and is struggling to sit and stand.
He's suffering from panic attacks.
His lungs are still causing some breathing challenges, so he is still on oxygen support.
His kidneys suffered from the surgery and he is needing dialysis.
His heart beat dropped too low and he had pacemaker support, but that seems to have repaired itself now.
He’s starting to be able to speak. He recognises us, but has some confusion. He’s scared.
Dexter's grandmother is tired and scared.
We are, too.
Thanks to the people who have asked after him, messaged and supported all of us.
