Today I had a vision review.
It's always hard to have reviews.
It’s hard hearing things about my disabilities because I am always on the ‘bad side’ of text book definitions. Hearing how I am at the lowest end of the scale isn’t fun and it makes Mum a little sad, all over again.
But, the vision therapist told Mum that we are doing a great job!
She said my family are giving me every opportunity to keep developing my eyes. (My eyes work just fine, but because of my brain damage, the message sometimes gets lost.)
My new kitchen bench top makes a great plain backdrop for me to concentrate on my looking! A solid, plain background helps me focus on an object.
My bedroom is perfectly set up, too! I have some cool lights, including disco lights. I have paintings with reflective paint, from Aunty Terese. I have black animal cut-outs, which make for cool contrasts, from Aunty Eggs (ericamade).
The vision therapist loved my light box (my secret chill out room!) and she loved the colour board Nanoo made.
If you want to show me something, hold it close to my face. It helps if you move it slowly. If you ask me about it, give me time to respond. It helps if there is a plain background behind the object, so maybe put some black paper behind what you show me. And, don’t give up on me. Give me a chance to learn to understand the messages my eyes are sending me.
