Even with my cerebral palsy (or, maybe because of it) I have had a lot of adventures.
My family don't want me to miss out on things.
By the time I was two, I was old enough to go surfing. Mum and Dad signed the paperwork and paid the registration... and then, they strapped the red bracelet around my wrist. The red colour means 'non swimmer'. It means 'this person cannot swim and will drop to the bottom of the water!'. And Mum stressed a little.
The first time I went surfing, it was pouring! The rain was endless and the weather was miserable. We stood under a shelter and waited... and then, it was my turn.
Mum was the one who went out to the water with me and Dad did the videoing.
It was awesome! Mum ran alongside me as I surfed for the first time.
There were cheers up and down the beach (and I have always loved cheering!)
I didn't fall off the board. I didn't get hurt.
I surfed.
Letting me do that was a big thing for Mum and Dad.
It was the first time they really stepped out of their comfort zones and opened up a world of adventure for me. There would be no going back!
Since I went surfing, we were up for trying anything.
We worked for my adventures to happen, but we loved them all.
Some people made us think I wouldn't really have many adventures, because of my quadriplegia, vision impairment and lack of words.
Not us! We've had some great fun in the last five years.
Here are some of our adventures:
We were invited to a Manly game. How awesome that day was!
and I met the awesome people from the PT Cruisers group.
They bought me my shower/toilet seat. Because of them, I get to have showers!
Phil Winterton (Photography) got some amazing photos.
Mum and Dad drove up the mountain, so we could see the snow.
I've been on the news, in a magazine, on the radio and in the newspaper.
(Thanks for the support!)
(The next concert is the 27th of May 2016. Want to join us?)
Their fundraising helped me buy my high low chair.
They also funded a lot of physiotherapy for me.
I rode in the police Audi! That was an awesome day. Thank you!
I've met some really lovely people and been given some incredible opportunities.
These are the days where we can 'forget' my disabilities and just enjoy my curiosity and my love of all things fun.
