I miss having baths!
This is how I have to get clean.
But, today I was a bit cheeky, and I tipped the bucket over with my hand!
The water went everywhere! I thought that was funny.
Previously, his doctors tried a hip adduction procedure, where the muscle in his leg was released, but this wasn't enough. Dexter's hip was practically dislocated.
Not bearing weight on it (by standing and walking every day) had caused most of this problem.
Living with cerebral palsy really is difficult.
The following are some photos of the brace:
In the first couple of weeks, this was awful to do, because moving him caused Dexter a lot of pain. He needs to be rolled on to his side, with his 'bad' leg supported. A second nappy is worn over the first one, and this is an adult sized nappy. This one can be done up.
The padding around Dexter's back has not been changed.
When the nurses changed it, in the hospital, Dexter screamed in pain,
so Lenice has opted to leave this one alone.
It means his back is in a slightly altered position.
Dexter needs to have time on his back, and on his stomach.
In this photo, you can see the scar from his liver surgery - the one where they cut out his hepatoblastoma (liver tumour).
When the brace comes off, on the 17th of November, Dexter will stay in Sydney for a week. He will have daily hydrotherapy sessions, which he loves.
The hydrotherapy will help him begin to work on gaining back his lost muscles.
We have been advised that this procedure will set Dexter's physical development back 18 months.
Dexter was suffering from 'hospital nightmares', but is becoming much more settled and cheeky. His pain is abating.
