They are giving away at least one million dollars this year.
$500,000 was donated to 37 charities on the 8th of July 2014, and the remaining $500,000 will be donated at the end of 2014. This will be divided up over the year to include 4 x $50,000 donations, 10 x $20,000 donations, and 60 x $10,000.
This means that 74 charities will benefit. (See where the money goes.)
Dick Smith Foods are giving away another half a million by the end of the year.
And, we get to decide which charities get the money.
And, all we have to do, is take a photo and send an email and name a charity.
Points will be allocated to our chosen charity... and the charities with the most points, get the money.
Sure, we are promoting Dick Smith Foods and we are saving them a lot of advertising costs by doing it... but, this time... money is being given back to the charities we care about.
Righto Dexter's Mates, lets do this.
Get a group of family or friends together (up to 10 people in a photo - a point for each person) and as many Dick Smith Food products as you can hold - a point for each product. Take a photo...
email it to Dick Smith Foods and nominate a charity.
It's difficult for us to choose just one charity, because Dexter has an association with many of them!
We'd like to get behind The Disability Trust (Illawarra) to support Melissa and her Music Makers, and the other great things The Disability Trust does.
The Disability Trust (Illawarra) has not been nominated, yet, so it would be great to see lots of photos flooding in, and as a result, watching The Disability Trust rise up the list of nominations.
These other charities caught our eye:
- Wheelchairs for Kids Inc.
- Anglicare NSW
- Assistance Dogs Australia
- House with No Steps
- The Kids' Cancer Project
- Cerebral Palsy Alliance
- Riding For The Disabled Association Of Australia
- Dogs for Kids with Disabilities
There are so many on the list, you're sure to find someone to support!
and, if your charity is not on the list, they will add it as soon as there are votes.
(I emailed the company, asking what would be done with the photos, and this was their response:
Thank you for your email.
Images only being used for voting purposes.
Kind regards

So... grab nine mates and as many Dick Smith Foods products as you can. Take a photo. (Maybe sneak in a Love Dexter sign, to be cheeky!)
Then, email the photo to [email protected] and name the charity of your choice.
You can nominate any charity... one which is important to you. The list of charities is here. The ones at the top of the list have the most votes.
Sadly, Dick Smith has said his company may have to close down, as they are finding less and less Australian businesses to process their food, and Dick Smith only wants to support Australian businesses.
Read the article here.
So... how does the voting work?
One voting point will be given for each product that is in your pantry, so if you show three Dick Smith Foods products you get three points.
You can also receive bonus points if you send a photograph of you holding up Dick Smith Foods products to a group of up to 10 of your neighbours – one point for each neighbour present in the photo you send.
We constantly receive emails where people say, ”Dick, your product isn’t in my local supermarket”, but when we check, it’s there alright but possibly down on the floor shelf or up on the top shelf and hard to see.
We could get a better shelf position in the supermarkets if we could get better sales, so please tell your friends to buy our products and vote so their favourite charity can be assisted.
