I was born 9 weeks early.
I weighed 1.59kg.
I spent 122 days in three different hospitals.
This was my first photo.
I changed everything!
My family didn’t know I would be born early and I’m lucky I made it home - fully breastfed and breathing air. If I had been born in another generation or another country, I probably wouldn’t have made it home.
Mum saw babies who did not make it home.
It’s important to create awareness about a day like today. We need to talk about premature babies. We need to talk about how tough it is. We need to talk about the high percentage of NICU parents who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We need to talk about the NICU babies who live with permanent disabilities.
Thinking of all my fellow NICU graduates and especially those who didn’t get to go home. x
