Happy Birthday Aunty Carol! Thanks for everything you do for me. I love you. Sloppy kisses just for you xxx Happy Birthday, Aunty Carol
Because I'm having surgery soon, I have to practice all my therapy - but it is starting to hurt. I haven't been in my walker for a little while, because its been hurting me, and my steps have gotten pretty bad. Its been too hot to practise my walking, so today, I did my walking inside! In the kitchen... (and we had to use the kitchen, because the carpet would have been even harder to walk on - we'll have to get floor boards one day!). There isn't much room in the kitchen, but with the help of my new AFOs, I did some really good stepping. (The AFOs are plastic braces I wear on my legs, to help them stay straight and strong.) Today's steps were the best steps I've taken in a while! The AFOs must have helped me.... or maybe, it was the power of the pink socks.... Luckily Aunty Carol was at the end of the kitchen, to catch me so I didn't fall down the step! She kept giving me kisses when I reached her! Oh man! Read about my upcoming surgery - set for January 28th
Watch me in my walker Return to Home page Return to Blog I finally got my first set of AFOs. The AFOs help keep my ankles at the right angle. They cost about $1000! I should wear knee long socks under the AFO's, so they don't rub on my legs. Mum could only find PINK socks! So embarrassing!!! I could only wear my AFOs for one hour today - my first day with them.
Tomorrow, I can wear them for two hours.... the next day, three hours... Then four hours a day, then five hours, then six hours, then seven hours and then, finally, up to eight hours a day. Then, I can wear them as much as I like. Today, I wore them while I was riding my bike... but, I was a bit naughty... and dozed off while Mum pushed me along the street! In December, two amazing groups of people worked to raise money for me. One group was a beautiful family we had never met. We know now, they are kind-hearted, generous people. Thanks, Clarke Family! xxx The other is Paolo and his team at The Brooding Italian Cafe in Kiama. Sometimes, saying 'thank you' isn't enough... it doesn't show how you really feel... it isn't enough. This is one of those times. Paolo, Kerry and The Brooding Italian:
Tomorrow is the last Brewing it for Dexter Friday... and Paolo might be a little upset that I am publicly thanking and praising him... (he's asked us not to publicly thank him - he's doing these days out of love, not for recognition or publicity) but I'll get about 26 hours of physiotherapy this year, because of him and his team and I think that deserves a shout out! THANK YOU!!! To everyone who's helped! And, the Clarkes:
It's Charlotte's birthday today. She is one. She is always so noisy and she climbs all over me! She even hit me in the forehead the other day, when mum wouldn't give her my medicine! But I love her and I'm glad she is here. She's teaching me to make lots of noise and I still worry about her when she cries. Already, she knows I'm a bit different to most kids, and sometimes, she watches me carefully. She's pretty clever and Aunty Carol has been a bit naughty. She taught Charlotte to spit and blow huge raspberries, which is pretty funny, until Charlotte blows them with a mouthful of milk! She high-fives people now and waves ta ta. She can give you something when you say 'taa' and holds her own bottle now. (She learns pretty quickly, because she's only been drinking from a bottle for about a week!) She feeds herself lunch and has stood on her own... but is not quite walking yet. She doesn't have any teeth, yet. She loves dancing, and gets her whole upper body into it! I love her... even when she sits on my head! Happy Birthday!
I know some of the people in this video. What a fun way to bring in the new year!
Sydney Kids is where I was treated for my hepatoblastoma.
I still go there for my check ups. Find out more about the Sydney Childrens Hospital at their website. |
