She's loud and she's cheeky... she's stubborn and says No a lot...
But, she is amazing.
She watches me, sometimes... and I can imagine she's wondering about me.
She has an inner wisdom, and natural empathy.
She makes allowances for me, and knows I'm a bit different.
As her big brother, I didn't teach her to walk... or talk. Or play.
But she loves me. So much.
She doesn't often make a big appearance on my blog... and we don't share all her adventures. We're a bit more careful with her, and about protecting her on social media. I'll never be able to 'blend in', as I 'walk' down the street... people will always notice me. They won't always notice my sister...
But this post is for her... for all she did for me, while I was in Adelaide for my conductive education therapy.
Every morning (Tuesday to Friday, for a month), I was in my therapy lessons by 9am. My sister was at the park... when the grass was still wet and the swings and slides were wet. She played by herself, exploring and playing, playing and exploring, almost every morning, while I was in therapy.
She played in that park, even on the rainy days, and on the days when it was so cold she could barely move, because she had so many layers on. She ate many apples at this park! When the park became boring, she played with rocks! When I wasn't in therapy, we went exploring, as a family. When we are in the pram together, she has to sit in the bottom, where she can't see much. Most big brothers would be walking, so she could sit on the top seat, but I can't do that for her. She doesn't really like being stuck in the bottom of the pram! When I was in my therapy classes, she rode in my pram seat... up the top! She rode up and down the streets, for hours. Some of the locals started to recognise the pram, because they saw her so many times. | On the rainiest days, she ate her lunch on the side of the road, under the shelter, cheering as the trucks and buses drove past. Almost everyone took my sister to the zoo. She loved the pandas! (Even the pretend ones!) Thanks to Jan, she knows pandas very well, now! Some days, while I was in therapy, my sister would go to the same coffee shop a couple of times. One day, she went to one coffee shop three times, with three different people! The cafe owners got to know her pretty well! They just didn't know who would be bringing her in to the cafe! My sister was out and about for three hours, each day I was in therapy classes. On the sunny days, it was fine. On the cold, windy, rainy days... my sister was very patient and didn't make a fuss. It's like she knew I was busy, and she needed to be good. On the last day, it was very cold outside, and the beautiful conductors said she could stay inside the therapy room, for my fun Olympics hour. She was allowed to draw pictures... She was allowed to run around and tip over all the toys and equipment. They didn't mind... And, she was allowed to be noisy and cheer for me... |
