Is it wrong to be laughing at a magic show at the Ronald McDonald house while Dexter remains in the Childrens' ICU?! He is still ventilated and likely to remain this way overnight, but he is ok. He just doesn't like the drugs, which he needs! It's likely they will trial him on cpap tomorrow (for his breathing), which will be interesting because he always hated that in the Neo-natal ICU! Thanks again for all the support and love.
Unfortunately, Dexter's pain levels were too high and it was starting to effect his ability to breathe, so the doctors have had to sedate and ventilate him again. He is ok. Dexter had a pretty good night. He had a lot of pain at 6am and his doctors discussed how to best manage this pain. He's on more drugs now. (I imagine he'll be grumpy when he feels better!) Dexter did keep breathing on his own, all night - even at the 12 hour mark. Great job, Dexter!
After 5 and a half hours, surgery was over and he is now missing half his liver. He is in pain, so on a combination of pain killers. He won't be able to eat for a few days, so the nasty green tube is back! The surgeon was happy with the procedure and Dexter was settled when we left him in the CICU (Children's Intensive Care Unit). The surgeons did find an enlarged lymphnode, which has been sent for testing. Thanks for the support today. No specifics. Sounds like Dexter is heading to the Children's Intensive Care Unit. (This was expected after his surgery.) He's out of surgery and settled in the CICU. He's sleeping, breathing on his own and tied down with a bunch of tubes...
Thank you to everyone who is showing their love and support for Dexter, Lenice and Andrew today. It's been about five and a half hours. No news yet. I will update this as soon as I have information for you. I have passed on comments to Lenice. C
Dexter went in to the operating theatre today at 12. The surgery to remove his tumour is expected to take anywhere between 4-6 hours long. Good luck, Dexter. xxx
I'm fasting again today - and I don't understand why I can't eat. I'm too little to understand! I heard some tiny babies crying this morning - that was pretty funny. I liked that noise.... I wonder whether I will still like that noise when my new baby arrives and cries all night?? In this picture, are my hospital files for Randwick -my cancer files. If only I had this many frequent flyer points! RPA Hospital has about five of these on me, from when I was living there. Surgery today... |
