I got back on the ward this afternoon. I'm feeling a little bit better, but I'm still not 100%. I still have pain, but was able to get out of bed today. But, because I haven't eaten in three days, they put a feeding tube down my nose. This made Mum and Dad really sad. I haven't had one of these since I was a baby, not even during my chemo days! But I will show them, and start eating again, tomorrow. I've been drooling lots today too, so can give you all sloppy kisses again! Dexter |
While this is scary, it means Lenice and Andrew have a better chance at sleeping, as they are together. No one can stay overnight, with Dexter in the ICU.
Today, Dexter was still breathing too fast, and they think he was trying to fight some form of chest infection.
He is still not interested in eating, and today, they put in a gastro tube. We call this a feeding tube. (Nutrients are fed to Dexter, through a tube.)
When he was a tiny premmie baby, he had one.
During chemotherapy treatments, many children need a feeding tube. Dexter didn't. He managed to eat enough to maintain his body weight, without the need for the tube, during his chemotherapy treatment days.
Lenice has spent incredible time and effort, helping Dexter learn to eat, and developing his eating skills. Many children with severe cerebral palsy cannot eat, and need the constant use of a gastro tube. This has always been one of Lenice's greatest fears. She wants Dexter to be able to eat... and he enjoys eating!
So, today, with the insertion of the gastro tube... today was a rough day.
Dexter is still fighting temperatures.
But, he has been moved back to the ward, so that is an indication that he is on the way up, and requiring less individual attention.
Lenice and Andrew are exhausted. Kaisa is spending her days with Dexter, in hospital. She has been so quiet and settled, the nurses didn't realise she was there... They wondered why Andrew was pushing a pram up and down the corridors!
Charlotte is missing everyone. She is being kept very busy, enjoying many adventures with Nanoo and Pokky, and enjoying daily visits from her 'kids!' (cousins). But, this is hard on her, too.
Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. xxx
and reading my updates each day. Thank you!
One of my special friends, who visits this blog a couple of times a day, is Madison.
I'm going to save up a good sloppy kiss for you, Madison. xx Dexter
