It's good for me!
I have to do good stretches, and it's very calming. And fun.
Mum makes me do other therapies... but, horses scare her a little.
They are pretty big.
But, I'm nearly five.
So, Mum decided it was time...
Time for me to start hippotherapy!
I'm so happy!
It means I can go horse riding, every week!
The volunteers give their time and energy to help people with disabilities ride horses. They get the horses ready, and support the riders, and then they ten to the horses afterwards. From the Riding for the Disabled Association (NSW) Illawarra Centre website:
So why do we do it?
We do it for the smile that splits a child’s face the first time they trot down the trotting lane.
We do it for the tears that run down a mother’s cheek as her child achieves something she never thought they would.
We do it for the unrestrained gleeful squeal of the little girl when you throw the lead rope away and send her off on her own for the first time.
We do it for the strength and balance and freedom a child in a wheelchair gains when riding a horse.
We do it for the child who never used to speak, and now tells us what to do, and what we’re doing wrong!
We do it for the cheers, hugs, smiles, laughter, tears, and shared achievements. We don’t get paid in money, but in far more valuable things!
Dexter was very chatty after his first horse ride. He obviously loved it and was very enthusiastic when 'telling' us all about it.
