My first preschool day was a little bit scary for my Mum and Dad.
But, I've loved preschool ever since that first day.
I love the noise.
I love the kids.
I love the activities.
I love my caring and inclusive teachers.
Because I have no words (yet), we have a communication book, so I can show my family what happened at school.
We were scared because I can't run around... I can't sit up on a chair. I can't get my morning tea when I am hungry and I can't go to the bathroom when I need to.
It was scary because I don't have my words.
We were scared I might be pushed in to a corner and left there, just to watch and listen as the other kids played.
That doesn't happen.
That's pretty cool.
People from the university came out to my preschool, to film me. They had trouble, because there were always kids around me. They couldn't just film me, because I was in amongst the other kids. They eventually asked for permission to film some of the other kids.
That just shows how included I am in our preschool activities.
(We don't post photos of my friends, because we didn't ask for permission.)
(See my communication switch on the corner of the table?)
Mum and Dad were a bit scared that I might not have many friends. They were a bit scared I would not get invited to any birthday parties. They were a bit scared the other kids wouldn't want to hang out with me, because of my disabilities.
But, I do have some good friends.
And, I have been to some birthday parties.
Remember my Unicorn Friend? She's my favourite friend.
There are lots of other kids, too. They sit with me, help me play, pick up things I have dropped and talk to me. They see me.
(My Unicorn Friend's parents gave us permission to use this photo in a previous post. We hope its ok to use it again. )
Even when I am having a grumpy morning, I get to preschool and I smile.
Preschool has been a great thing for me.
Preschool days are fun memories for me.
Next year, I will go to kindergarten.
We are already talking with my school, getting ready for 2017.
