I could enjoy the words and feel the emotions...
I could picture the song and feel the love the truckers showed the little boy...
But, I never thought I could really relate to the song on an absolute personal level...
I didn't think I would ever become a 'part' of the song.
Wrong.
I know a little boy, younger than the one in the song.
Dexter.
I don't think we will ever know just how many local trucking companies know Dexter...
The people at McMahon's Transport know him and many truckers gave our 'Dexter' sign an extra long horn blast during the last Truck Convoy. The money these men donate for our sick kids is incredible... The way they spend hours polishing their trucks before driving through the streets and blasting their horns until they have to be replaced... This shows just how generous and loving these people are.
They might be quiet and humble, but they wear their hearts on their sleeves and the faces of our sick kids is enough to make any truckie wipe the 'sweat' from their eyes.
A quiet message on Dexter's facebook page inspired this post...
The message showed absolute love for a little boy who's doing it tougher than most. It was from a trucker he's never met... a man we don't know.
I reckon, if we put out the call... there'd be trucks lined up to take Dexter for a ride, too. That thought makes me smile. The every day things are a challenge for Dexter; the walking and sitting, the feeding and talking... But Dexter inspires and encourages us to be better people. He loves freely and never gives up.
To all the truckies who are so fast to dig into their pockets and give something to the kids... to the truckies who'd take the kids for a ride just to give them a break from their hardships... Thank you!
This one's for you.
