Dexter's Vision Dexter's Cerebral Palsy Dexter's Cancer Who is Dexter? Return to Home page Return to Blog Today Aunty Carol gave me my lunch. I like it when she feeds me. She has more time, than Mum, and so.. lets me do it myself! I did a really good job today, and had fun doing it! I used to be good at doing this, but after my big hip surgery, we stopped doing it... and got out of the habit. Aunty Carol thinks that's why I stopped letting her feed me, for a while. We've been working on me feeding myself again, for a while, now. I have to remember to hold on to the spoon... and not let go. That can be tricky, for me. Then, I have to lift my hand, and find my mouth. Sometimes, I forget to keep my head still, so that can be tricky, too! Then, I have to twist and turn the spoon, so the food goes in to my mouth... that bit is still a bit tricky! I do like it, when Aunty Carol helps me put the food on my spoon... instead of her just doing it for me. We made a lot of mess, but we were very proud of each other, and the mess was easy to clean up. This feeding myself business is a bit tricky, but I love it. I want to get really good at it. Dexter's Vision Dexter's Cerebral Palsy Dexter's Cancer Who is Dexter? Return to Home page Return to Blog Today, we played in the garden... well, we digged and planted and watered vegetables. At the moment, we have lots of tomatoes in the garden. My noisy sister loves them! She knows to only eat the red ones, so she picks her own tomatoes, every day. Some days, she saves some for dinner, but most days... she eats them outside, straight from the bush! She watches the baby cucumbers, but knows we can't eat them until they get big enough. She loves the garden cucumbers! She thinks everything else in the garden is basil! Today, I did a little digging, too. I tried some red tomatoes. Usually, I eat tomatoes mashed up, in my dinner. Today, I loved the squishy seeds! Tomatoes from the garden are good! While Mum and my noisy sister worked in the garden, planting and pulling weeds, watering and eating, I watched lots of bubbles with my littlest sister. We had a great day. Dexter's Vision Dexter's Cerebral Palsy Dexter's Cancer Who is Dexter? Return to Home page Return to Blog Today, people from the Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club - (Sydney Sub-Branch) rode to Kiama, to meet me at the lighthouse. I could hear the roar of the motorbikes, as they rode up the hill. The sound made me smile. They all came over and shook hands and said hello. They had a very special present, for me... They had some soldier pyjamas, made just for me! My Li'l Soldier name is sewn on them, and everything! Mum and Dad helped me put them on, and they fit perfectly. My sisters and I sat on Trevor's bike, and he revved it for me, so I could feel the vibrations and hear the noise close up. It was a bit weird, at first, but I liked it! My noisy sister found the noisy button... She pressed it... a lot! My littlest sister got lots of cuddles, and was laughing and playing. Everyone was so lovely, and it was a nice visit. Thanks so much, everyone, for coming down and meeting me. Sloppy kisses xxx What a great group of people! It was fun, sitting on Trevor's bike. This bike was in the convoy! This was when I got my soldier pyjamas! I did a pretty good job of opening the present, almost all by myself, and my noisy sister played with the teddy bear, that was bigger than her! See my name? **Some photography credit to the Military Brotherhood MCM Sydney Sub Branch. Find the Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club - (Sydney Sub-Branch) on facebook. Who are they: We are a club comprising serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and motorcycle support riders. We faithfully follow the Australian Defence Force (ADF) policies on codes of conduct and discrimination. (These photos are from facebook) Their Focus is threefold:
Member Welfare-To provide a 'safe haven' - our Club - that creates camaraderie, mateship and commitment. To ride our motorcycles and allow us the freedom to ride together, to bond together, to enjoy the road together, to look after each other. Veteran Welfare-To provide competent and dedicated welfare, pension and advocacy support to our members, Veterans and Veterans families in partnership with government departments such as DVA. To implement our 'Visit a Vet' initiative and provide companionship to older veterans living at home, in age care facilities and other institutions. To ensure observance of UN Day each year on 24 Oct in order to recognise the commitment, efforts and sacrifices of our Defence and Police personnel while on UN missions. To create both the Veterans Assistance Centre (VAC) and Veterans Retreat, both being a 'drop in' centre for veterans who need qualified support, familiar surroundings and like-minded company. National Focus-To plan ahead 30 years to ensure the Club remains sustainable. To grow the Club through purpose, dedication and desire. To align the Club with other military motorcycle clubs, to unite our common purpose and to build a firm camaraderie between us all. Learn more on the website. Dexter's Vision Dexter's Cerebral Palsy Dexter's Cancer Who is Dexter? Return to Home page Return to Blog Mum thought I should have a sleep today... I had other ideas, and she found me like this! I think they are going to have to get a bigger rail! This is my hospital-style bed, and it has been lowered, so I am closer to the ground. That was in case I fell out, once I started to learn how to roll over, again. And now... I'm really starting to move. They better watch out! I nearly got away... this time. #cerebralpalsy #nevergiveup Find me on: facebook twitter instagram pinterest
Dexter's Vision Dexter's Cerebral Palsy Dexter's Cancer Who is Dexter? Return to Home page Return to Blog I had my cancer check scan today, in Sydney. It's always a really long day, with lots of waiting around.... I need a general anesthetic, and they have to find one of my veins, for a cannula. I wake up feeling a bit cranky, because I'm hungry and thirsty. Then, I play around on the bed for a couple of hours, to monitor me, and then they let me go home. Today, Charlotte stayed with my Aunty Terese and the kids and Aunty Carol came to Sydney, with Mum, to help out with Kaisa. Hopefully, the results will say I am still cancer clear. Dexter's Vision Dexter's Cerebral Palsy Dexter's Cancer Who is Dexter? Return to Home page Return to Blog I had my first session for the year, with my physiotherapist, Zoe, today. She works me very hard, but I like showing her how well I can do. My therapist works very well, with me, and I strive to make her proud. I like it when we can have a sneaky cuddle. This is often the result of Dexter's physio sessions with Zoe. Mum likes that this is the end result! I usually don't sleep during the day. My Zoe noted that I am reaching forward more, when moving on the floor. This is a great thing, and could have something to do with my new found speed! I can't crawl, but I have adapted my own version. I can make my way towards someone, if I want to. If anyone needs a pediatric physiotherapist, we can highly recommend Zoe. Dexter's Vision Dexter's Cerebral Palsy Dexter's Cancer Who is Dexter? Return to Home page Return to Blog Today, I met Trevor and his family. The first time I met Trevor, I was in the hospital. I had just had my hip surgery, and I was on strong pain medication. This time, I was feeling much better, and I was being very cheeky. I loved meeting Trevor, and his family. I sat on Trevor's lap, and we did high fives and knuckle punches. Trevor's beard tickled me, and it made me smile. I had a fun morning. Thanks for visiting! While I was sitting with Trevor, his lovely girls stood behind me. I kept reaching back, trying to get them. Thanks for playing. When Trevor visited me, in the hospital, he gave me some toys. It was the first time, in a long time, Mum and Dad saw me playing, and that made them smile. **Photo credit: Trevor Find me on: facebook twitter instagram pinterest
