Some days, someone says something in ignorance... They set limits on Dexter, or they make judgements, or they stare... or they run away and avoid us.
We understand that. That is exactly why we pour our hearts out on this blog, and share the good, the bad and the ugly on social media.
We'd rather it if we could hide in privacy and quietly live out lives...
But, for Dexter... we don't.
We set out to raise awareness... to help people understand Dexter, and cerebral palsy, and disabilities and difficulties people face.
We can understand that many people still don't understand Dexter, or his cerebral palsy. We understand that he can be very intimidating, and even, scary.
But, when a professional, trained in the field of paediatric occupational therapy makes continued ignorant, judgmental comments... it hurts.
We'd love to scream the business name to the skies, and tell everyone to avoid them! We'd love to make them step up and realise just how unprofessional and uncaring they have been.
But, we won't.
But know this, we are very disappointed. And angry.
Over the last six weeks, Lenice and Andrew have paid about $180 for hourly sessions with this Occupational Therapist. Often, they have been running late.
Each session, they manage to criticise Lenice, Dexter or his 20 month old sister.
Dexter has not been handled well.
He has not had the correct support, he was almost dropped to the ground and his legs were rarely put in the correct position.
Lenice has suffered numerous negative comments and judgements, from someone who has training and should know better.
Each week, they have asked Lenice to schedule appointments for Dexter's preschool day, and each week, Lenice has said 'No'. They just haven't listened.
And each week, Lenice has held her tongue.
Today was the last day, and we're glad!
Dexter needs occupation therapy, but he does not need them!
We're angry, today.
Lenice has never felt comfortable there, but she put her feelings aside and didn't listen to their negative comments, because Dexter needs the therapy.
Today, a trained, professional therapist called Dexter 'Mr Floppy' and 'Mr Lazy'. She called him naughty because he was having trouble holding his head up. She should know that his brain damage and cerebral palsy cause him to have low muscle tone.
There is no excuse for calling him floppy!
Dexter has to work extra hard at doing everything, which makes him tired - not lazy or naughty!
Shame! Shame on you!
Today was a bad day, because Dexter deserves better!
Today was his last pre-booked session. There will be no more sessions with them!
So, we move on.
We forget them.We forget their criticisms and judgments.
And, we love Dexter. He's one cheeky, determined and brave little boy!
Thanks to everyone who can see past the cerebral palsy,
and see the cheeky, good-natured, determined Dexter.
