Maybe because a child with special needs needs you just that little bit more...
Maybe because you watch them overcome so many hurdles...
Maybe because you become fiercely protective...
Maybe because they have incredible strengths and determination...
Maybe because you work so hard together, you really celebrate each little milestone...
Maybe because people with cerebral palsy are strong, determined, brave, patient, cheeky, clever and kind....
With cerebral palsy, there is so much love!
Dexter is an incredible little person.
He has nearly died on us, a few times. We've watched him fight back.
We've watched him push himself beyond his pain threshold; determined to take a few more steps.
We've watched him grow and achieve things people said he never would.
We've watched his cheeky personality grow and and we have seen him become a patient and stubborn, determined and loving little boy.
We could not love him more than we do.
He fills our hearts with admiration and pride.
We adore him!
Dexter teaches us to be kinder and tougher, stronger and more patient.
He teaches us what is important.
He teaches us about what's good and what we should fight for.
He helps us move past things we shouldn't focus on.
There is something about him that draws people to him... Maybe it's the eyelashes, but then... it could be his beautiful nature. Whatever it is, we have watched many, many people meet him and fall under his spell.
Many days with cerebral palsy are awful.
Dreams have been smashed and daily life is difficult.
It is heartbreaking seeing the things Dexter can't do, especially as he gets older and his peers are doing more and more.
Despite everything, or maybe... because of it, there is so much love.
Forget the comparisons and simply notice your child. Notice their strengths and special little quirky habits.
Be proud.
Tell them you love them.
Thanks for joining us on a month of cerebral palsy challenges. We really appreciate the support and kindness we are shown.
If you see someone with a disability, never be afraid to smile and say hi.
