We can have fun along the way.
You may have noticed Lenice (Dexter's Mum) and Lenny Turner (a man we just met in person on Thursday, but who has loved Dexter from afar for some time),
teasing each other about media appearances and personal fame.
Let's face it, being on the television, the radio or the news is fun and exciting!
So, this post is a fun re-cap of Lenice's media appearances regarding Convoy. Dexter's dad, Andrew, was at work when most of these 'media appearances' took place.
The family have designated Lenice as the family spokesperson.
**This is a little tongue-in-cheek... a little fun.
Please don't be offended by the bragging tone this post may have.
Let's start with the i98FM Camp Quality official launch, back in September.
Lenice and Dexter were there, with Charlotte.
Photos were taken, and they appeared on the local news and in the newspaper.
but Lenice has been taught some tricks to keep her eyes open when it's sunny!
Their next appearance in the media was on WIN news.
We will admit that we actually contacted the media this time, and asked for a story to be done. (We felt a little cheeky, but we wanted to thank some people!)
Natassia got back to us and there they were... on the news!
The news segment was about the Sunsuper Dreams contest we won.
They thanked everyone for voting and Lenice thanked the amazing man who bought Dexter his walker. At the end of the segment,
Lenice mentioned the People's Truck and the Dexter's Mates idea.
This is the time Lenice declared, three times and truly, that Dexter is a fighter.
And, the truth is... he really is a fighter - we just like to tease Lenice.
and our Dexter's Mates idea in an article they wrote for us about Dexter.
Since the very first article they wrote on Dexter, back when he was first diagnosed, Kerrielyn has been a generous and beautiful supporter of Dexter.
Lenice and Kerrielyn often speak on the telephone. Thank you.
A phone call had come through the day before, and Lenice had jumped at the offer to appear on the Today Show, during the weather broadcasts.
It was a chance to be on national TV!
(Actually, Lenice initially said 'No',
but the people at Camp Quality convinced her to be there!)
So, there they were... Lenice, Dexter, Charlotte and Derek McMahon (People's Truck owner), standing with Stevie Jacobs on the very first weather cross of the morning, with the incredible People's Truck in the background. While no words were said, an enthusiastic head nod from Lenice gave us something else to tease her about.
***edit #2 - Lenny would like it known that Lenice was simply a 'stage prop', as she did not speak during any of the broadcasts. She simply nodded her head.
We're glad Lenice said yes. It was also the first time Lenice met Aaron, who held Dexter during one of the broadcasts. In total, Lenice and Dexter and Charlotte were on the Today Show weather crosses three times that day.
She now brags she's been on national tv.
WIN news were there, too.... filming.
That night, the breakfast filming featured on the news, and then...
they cut to Lenice and and Dexter and talked about his cancer journey.
This was actually a nice segment, and we didn't really find anything
to tease Lenice about - which is impressive, because she spoke for quite a while.
Newspaper, national TV and local TV... in one day! Amazing.
Derek and Nicole asked Lenice to come to their office for the bidding.
Suspecting that the People's Truck would be in the top few trucks for the bidding, there was a camera crew there, taping for the Convoy documentary.
Lenice had to share this media coverage
with her new media-rival, Lenny Turner and Derek McMahon.
Live bids were made on air, via i98FM.
***Edit #3 - Lenice made two bids for the People's Truck before Lenny pushed her out of the way in a jealous rage - taking over the radio waves and making his own two bids. At this time, Derek realised Lenny had elbowed his way in
and he then took over the radio waves to make the final bid.
(In actual fact, Lenice was freaking out a little bit and became very focused on recording all of the truck bids, as a way to remain calm and tear-free.)
Edit #3, Clause A
New evidence has just been handed to the judges. It reads as follows:
Oi!!! Edit 3 .. NOT GUILTY your honourable Aunty Carol ... In my defence I would like you to look at exhibit A pictured below. If you take a close look at Lenice you can clearly see that she is ready to stab anyone that encroaches the "stage area" with her pen. Derek was simply standing btn Mrs Heffernan and I to protect me should she become violent. At no time did I enter the 'No Go Zone' in front of the WIN TV cameras and therefore I am not guilty and propose that edit 3 be removed!
I would also like to call to the stand Nicole, who will testify for me that the above version of events are true and correct in every detail. I rest my case!
New photographic evidence is included below:
He could claim to have featured on inter-state news! Lenice declared that National News was more impressive than simply crossing a border!
But, to Lenice's alarm, a postie in Flinders recognised Lenny from the news!
Lenice has never been recognised,
so Lenny edged slightly forward with those bragging points.
The intense media-rivalry really heated up at the Lead Truck Bidding 'after party'. Lenice walked out, to notice Lenny and Dexter being filmed by the WIN news crew.
You can see her in the background, in pink.
(Lenice claims it was too sunny, Lenny says she was jealous!)
(Suppose that means more points to Lenny!)
The rivalry for media attention heated up.
Lenny was asked by Marty to speak on i98FM during the convoy, which was impressive and earned him more credit. (As we didn't have the radio on, we have to simply take him at his word for this. It is yet to be confirmed. *** see below)
Lenice was spotted by the i98FM car during the convoy, and everything stopped while photos were taken and Bianca ran up the hill to say hello.
They both gained points for these 'appearances', those Lenny's points are pending.
Lenice was standing on a red carpet during the convoy,
which showed Lenny that she was, indeed, a very important person.
She edged slightly forward in the bragging tally.
as he drove past and he immediately claimed double bonus points
because, by waving, she had publicly admitted he was more famous than herself.
Lenice claims to have been cheering for Lenny's brave little passenger, Tobi.
If this is the only reason, she earns more bragging points.
If she was packing up early, to spend more time with Lenny,
she loses a significant number of points!
Filming did take place.
And, Lenice earns double points, as two lots of filming were scheduled. Actually, three lots of filming where scheduled, but due to rain, one lot was postponed.
Lenice earned more bragging rights points as she was lead away by the Camp Quality filming crew, but it was decided these points would be deducted, as she pulled a 'show-off' face at Lenny as she was lead off. This behaviour caused pain to Lenny, and the judges sided with him on this occasion.
the bragging-rights points competition.
and was interviewed by Marty.
This is yet to be confirmed, but we are happy to give Lenny points for this one.
Lenice was on the evening news and everyone believed
the race to fame had been won!
But, no...
Lenny pointed out very quickly, that Lenice's name was written incorrectly,
so it was immediately apparent that she was not even famous enough
for her name to be correctly spelled.
until.... a very public tantrum was thrown by Lenny
and the judges decided to call the whole thing off!
His words: "This one clearly shows (Lenice) records herself on TV
then watches it over and pauses it ...
probably leaves it on like that all day, kinda like a screensaver."
And, in all honestly...
The immediate friendship that developed between Lenny and Lenice
was obvious to everyone who was near them.
Last week, Lenny was a guy we only knew through facebook.
Today, Lenny is part of our family.
He's pretty special.
