When I get sick, I go down hill fast, but, I’m so much stronger now, that my recovery is just as fast!
On Friday morning my temperature went up 3 degrees in a 30 minute period (that was with panadol) and I had a 10 minute seizure.
The ambulance took me straight to Wollongong hospital and I was placed in a resuscitation bed.
My heart rate was close to 200 and my blood gas levels were too high.
I spent a bit over an hour vomiting. There was talk that unless my gas levels dropped quickly, I’d have to be ventilated and transferred to Sydney.
I struggled to come out of my seizure state.
I was given hi-flo oxygen and medication to stop my seizure activity.
At one point, Mum was asked whether there were limitations to what medical intervention I should be given... (Mum was surprisingly polite in her response that there were to be no limitations and I was to be given whatever needed to make me better!).
I stayed in the resuscitation bed for 8 hours. Mum was kicked out when the nurses thought she might wee herself because it had been so long, otherwise, she didn’t leave my side.
We didn’t sleep Friday night. My temperatures continued through the night.
But my oxygen levels improved and I had no more temperatures or seizures the next day, so we were allowed home, to return for IV antibiotics Sunday and Monday.
I went back to hospital for my medication today and got told I can switch to oral antibiotics.
My numbers were awesome!
My canular is out and I can go to school tomorrow!
It’s the quickest turnaround we have had.
We need to thank everyone who stepped in to help out (and to everyone who offered help).
My sisters are sensitive and they watched me get taken away in the ambulance. They saw my seizure. They have been surrounded by love.
As much as I liked seeing all my old nurse friends, I don’t want to see you again for quiet some time!
