Usually, these come with the word 'Inspiring'. And, they are inspiring. They show incredible effort and resilience, determination and confidence. The stories are about people trying and failing and trying again. They are stories of people who help someone else to be their best. They are stories that remind us that everyone can do amazing things, if they want to and they work for it.
He has fought so many times and he has always chosen to keep fighting.
We've nearly lost him... more than a few times.
He's needed surgeries for his cerebral palsy, which have set him back years in his progress towards walking, sitting and standing.
Dexter fought cancer, which also set him back in his progress.
Many, many times, he could have given up.... He could have decided to stop trying, but he never did.
During the cancer days, Dexter would come home from chemotherapy treatments, exhausted and feeling sick, but wanting to try to stand for us.
He pushes through pain while he's in his standing frame and his walker.
He rarely complains.
And so, one day, I expect there might be a story like this... About Dexter... and how he has done something inspiring, because he has the heart.
Dexter has the desire.
He has the resilience and the determination.
And, Dexter has a stubborn support crew behind him, who will do whatever it takes to help him get there.
Here's to all of the people who believe and all of the people who just never stop trying.
"Inspired by Olympian Michael Phelps, Johnny Agar is proving that his cerebral palsy doesn’t mean he can’t be an athlete, finishing an arduous half-Ironman race in Florida." (NBC News)
