I think I will have lots of friends.
This is how cool my school is:
The pink note explains that the picture was drawn by a year one boy, who said I am his best friend!
The red writing says ' I like you Dexter.'
The children at my new school don't seem to mind that I am non-verbal.
They don't seem to mind my communication switch (and how much I like using it to talk to them.)
The children don't seem to mind that I have a vision impairment and don't look them in the eye.
They don't seem bothered by my wheelchair.
The kids don't seem to care that I don't run around, like they do.
Usually, I get stared at, wherever I go.
Not at my school... I am not being stared at. The kids look for me, but not to stare.
The kids look for me, so they can say hello and be my friend.
We have had a couple of parents reach out to us, to tell us how their child has been talking about me and that they have been excited to have me at their school.
We're so grateful for that! We know my disabilities can be intimidating.
We know my disabilities can be isolating.
We are so happy that the children at my school are so friendly.
I can tell that people believe in me.
What a great school! What a positive welcome.
What an inclusive and supportive environment.
I'm so lucky!
