A life with cerebral palsy is tough.
You have to learn to have a sense of humour.
You have to learn to 'roll with the punches' and laugh. (Otherwise, you cry.)
So, for some fun...
CP Challenge: (With no intent to be disrespectful) pull a CP face.
Some people with cerebral palsy have difficulty controlling the muscles in their face. This means they sometimes have their mouth open in various ways.
They may have difficulty with swallowing saliva, so may drool.
They might squint.
Dexter often has trouble controlling the muscles in his face.
Since Dexter was tiny, we referred to this as his 'CP face'.
Often, this is a reason people stop and stare at him. We hate the stares.
In the last few months, Dexter has been working on smiling. When we tell him to smile for a photo, he sometimes holds his head high and smiles. It's not yet a 'typical' smile, but he is working those facial muscles and learning to smile.
So, today, for fun, pull a CP face.
Respectfully.
